Global card fraud on the rise

In a survey commissioned by ACI across 17 countries, one in four cardholders has been hit by card fraud in the past 5 years, prompting many to ditch their provider.

According to the Aite Group poll of 5223 people - around 300 for each country - Mexicans are the most likely to fall victim to fraudsters, with 44% hit in the last five years.

Chip and PIN-less America comes second, on 42%, followed by India on 37%. The UK ranks sixth on 34%, well above its European neighbours, Germany (13%) and the Netherlands and Sweden (both 12%).

The markets involved in the survey include:

The Americas (North and South America): Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and the United States

EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa): France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom

The Asia-Pacific: Australia, China, India, Indonesia, and Singapore

The survey also shows the cost to banks when their customers fall victims, with attrition rates after experiencing fraud averaging 21%. Of those that get a replacement card, 46% use it less than the original and half of fraud victims also start using more cash.

Identity theft replaces credit card fraud as the greatest concern from fraud exposure in this year's survey with 49% of respondents saying that they are very concerned about possible harm to their financial standing and rating.

Yet many consumers continue to exhibit risky behaviours, including keeping written records of PINs, throwing un-shredded documents containing sensitive information into bins and using public computers or PCs without security software to do Internet banking and to shop online.

Consumers are keen to hear from their banks if they are at risk, with 82% 'very interested' in being notified before action is taken if unusual activity on their account or card has been spotted.

Respondents want immediate and direct methods of contact from their banks, preferring to be alerted by mobile phone followed by an e-mail or text message. This marks a change from 2011 where contact via home phone was a secondary preferred method.

Shirley Inscoe, senior fraud analyst, Aite, says: "Financial institutions, issuers and retailers need to enlist customers in the fight against fraud, educate them on prevention best practices, and reassure them of policies should fraud occur. Maintaining customer satisfaction, loyalty and preserving wallet share can be achieved by communicating with and enlisting the customer in the fight against fraud. "

ECOMMERCE, MOBILE AND HOME DELIVERY

Retail Business Technology Expo (RBTE), Europe’s biggest and fastest growing retail show, is launching a number of major new initiatives to ensure it provides its visitors with a comprehensive show that covers all the key areas and challenges that retailers are currently facing.

RBTE 2013 will see the launch of The eCommerce Pavilions in association with IMRG, The Mobile Customer Experience Zone and The MetaPack Home Delivery Experience Zone, where visitors will be able to find out all there is to know about these core business areas.

Nick Field, Event Director, RBTE, said, “RBTE is a unique event as it provides the ideal platform for suppliers to showcase the latest technology, business services, tools and solutions.  The real strength of the event is that it puts multichannel  where it belongs - at the heart of retail operations and in context of all its interdependent functions such as marketing, eCommerce, mCommerce, payments, in-store, stock control, business information and customer marketing and relations.  We’ve conducted extensive research, and know these business areas are the top of the retailer’s priority lists.  But the key factor that pulls all of these issues together is how to improve the customer experience.  The message has come through loud and clear there is a massive demand for more information and education on how this can be achieved, and in particular around eCommerce, Mobile and Home Delivery.”

Recognising the importance of these areas to all retailers, special focused zones are being created to host suppliers offering specialist solutions to help retailers in these areas, in association with key partners.  Following the successful launch of the Pecha Kucha challenge at RBTE 2012, there will also be a dedicated Pecha Kucha Theatre where participants in the eCommerce, Mobile and Home Delivery Zones will be given a presentation slot.

Shiran Liyanage, Head of Marketing – UK, MetaPack, partner for the Home Delivery zone said, “MetaPack is delighted to be hosting this special zone within RBTE as delivery represents the key to retailer growth right now. Whether through multichannel activity, cross-border trade, range expansion, marketplaces, social networking or just simply adding the latest and best delivery promises, this zone helps retailers overcome the challenges in delivering these initiatives.”

Andrew McClelland, Chief Operations & Policy Officer, said, “Retail has become inextricably linked to technology, and this relationship will become further entwined as society continues its digital evolution. It is important that retailers are fully aware of the new developments in technology that will affect the way that consumers engage with them, as well as the solutions that enable the back-end systems to meet the challenges posed by these changes. Supporting RBTE allows us to engage with some of the key solution providers and catch up with our contacts at the retailers who are leading the field in the development of systems that provide the most advanced and engaging consumer experiences.”

5th Annual Prepaid Awards Celebrates Innovation and Best Practice

On Thursday 11th October 2012, the Lancaster Hotel in London played host to the 5th Annual Prepaid Awards, celebrating innovation and best practice within the prepaid industry. Over 500 prepaid industry professionals saw winners being presented with awards in 17 different categories, which had been judged by an independent panel of prepaid experts from around the world.
A champagne reception launched the evening where guests networked with the industry's finest, followed by a fabulous dinner enabling sponsors and table hosts to entertain their clients. After the ceremony, guests partied to the live band, In The Groove, until the early hours.

Visa Europe - latest advertiser on http://www.cardandpaymentjobs.com

Visa Europe today became the latest new advertiser on the leading card and payment job board http://www.cardandpaymentjobs.com
They are seeking a Senior Manager, Product Development - Authentication.

The role is detailed below:

Senior Manager, Product Development - Authentication
Job purpose:
E-commerce continues to grow quickly and is undergoing a transformative phase with the mobilisation of the internet, the proliferation of connected devices, the fast adoption of social and local technologies by merchants and developers and the rapidly evolving consumer demand. Our vision is to develop the propositions to position Visa payment scheme of choice for e-commerce.
In this environment, Authentication becomes a truly strategically critical component of Visa payments. The Authentication team’s challenge is to shape the future-proof authentication framework (Authentication 2.0) that powers the e-commerce element of the Visa Future of Payments vision.
Put simply, you will develop and bring to market commercially viable authentication propositions (and possibly products) that ultimately help differentiate Visa in e-commerce. You will endeavour to do this in an agile manner; will leverage Visa’s existing authentication assets where applicable (i.e. Verified by Visa, V.me authentication engine) but not be constrained by them and will actively explore the external partnerships route.
You will be naturally curious about the topic, have a solid commercial product and partnership development background, and bring an external and future orientated perspective to VE’s thinking and plans.

Key Accountabilities:
• Contribute to the development of the Authentication 2.0 roadmap
• Develop the Authentication 2.0 roadmap’s individual propositions and be their ‘product’ owner (the majority of propositions will be components but some may be products in their own right)
• Develop the corresponding commercialisation models and go-to-market strategies (inc. related investment proposals)
• Develop new and maintain existing authentication-related partnerships and manage all related commercial aspects (licensing, investments, partnership agreements, IP etc)
• Work very closely with the team’s Senior Authentication Architect to ensure that the propositions are technically sound; consultatively with the Risk, V.me and mobile teams; and under the governance of the Authentication Council
• Lead our “outside in” thinking in this area by keeping abreast of external developments in authentication (payments and non-payments), identifying the critical areas (i.e. device fingerprinting, browser-based, mobile authentication, biometrics. models etc), benchmarking the key players in each area to bear on our plans
• Be an active Authentication champion internally and represent VE in the market place

Essential criteria:
• Extensive new product development experience in ideally the authentication industry or a related one e.g. payments, fraud management, IT security
• Significant partnership development experience in ideally the authentication industry or a related one e.g. payments, fraud management, IT security
• Track record of developing and bringing to market commercially viable propositions in ideally the authentication industry or a related one e.g. payments, fraud management, IT security
• Excellent people and relationship building/management skills with the gravitas to credibly engage with internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Business knowledge of ecommerce, fraud and authentication
• Experience in Innovation
• Lateral thinker
